In their continued efforts to crackdown on impaired driving in the Hudson Valley, state police set up the safety checkpoints to “fulfill its mission of improving highway safety for all users” during the holiday season.
During the special enforcement, which was conducted beginning late on Sunday, Dec. 31 and into the early hours of Jan. 1, state police arrested New Windsor resident Jose Reina Santana, 23, for driving while intoxicated after he provided a breath sample that determined he had a blood alcohol content of .11 percent.
Additionally, four motorists were arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation and another was arrested for being in possession of an alcoholic beverage while operating a motor vehicle. State Police troopers also doled out an additional 28 traffic tickets for various offenses.
“The New York State Police will continue to work vigilantly year-round in 2018 to keep our roadways safe and prevent the needless tragedies that result from impaired and reckless driving.”
